Monty On The Run - 1985
Monty is ‘on the run’ from the authorities after getting in to a bit of trouble in the Miners' strike. A classic platformer developed by Gremlin Graphics, in Sheffield, for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 16.
OutRun 2 - 2004
In 2004, OutRun 2 was ported (this means redeveloped from one platform to another) to the Xbox from the Arcade version by Sheffield developers Sumo Digital. It’s a classic racing game where you can choose the course you drive on and the soundtrack, if you pick a convertible car your passenger raises her arms when you go past a check point.
Gang Beasts - 2014
A multiplayer beat 'em up game with comical jelly bodied characters. Set in fictional ‘Beef City’ you take part in mass brawls, knock your opponents out and then try to chuck them over the nearest hazard. Developed by Sheffield indie studio Boneloaf and published by Double Fine Presents. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, and PlayStation 4 in 2017, following an early access period for PC in 2014.
Snake Pass - 2017
A puzzle platformer developed and published by Sheffield developers Sumo Digital for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. During the course of learning how to use Unreal Engine, developer Seb Liese created a rope, he noticed how much it looked like a snake when it moved and when his colleagues saw it they encouraged him to move it forward, working together and making Snake Pass the first game to come from Sumo as a result of an internal game jam.
